Security is a vital element to consider when you have an online presence, as the internet becomes more central to our day to day lives its inevitable that more and more sensitive information finds its way online.
At the same time, more and more people are using the internet daily. Put these two things together and the result is a growing risk to the security of any information that is held online. Fortunately there are a growing number of applications and software that are designed to protect you and your website from a number of different security threats. Leech Protection (LP) is one of these applications (LP is a core feature that is included within your cPanel interface).
Leech Protection works, in short, by detecting unusual activity within password restricted directories. A good example of this would be when a user gains the username of another user but is unsure of that users password. The user name will be entered correctly but the foreign user will try multiple password entries to try and gain access to the restricted account. LP will pickup on this activity as being suspicious (normally a user may enter their password in error only once or twice before entering the correct password). LP will then block the foreign user from gaining access by only allowing a certain number of logins (selected by the website manager/controller) within a 2 hour period.
